Community

Kita no Taiko is a non-profit organization that enjoys support from the Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Alberta government. We are also grateful for our friends and family, and the arts community that has nurtured and inspired us.  It is one of our goals to give back to the community, and use taiko as a means to share not only our art and culture, but the spirit of togetherness and energy that connects us. We also seek connections with other artistic groups to share our arts together and learn through one another.

If you would like to collaborate with Kita no Taiko, or have us for your community event, please contact info@kitanotaiko.ca

Kolabo 2018
What started as a creative project bloomed into a spectacular stage show with Firefly Theatre and Circus. The drummers and aerial circus performers worked together to create original pieces influenced by each others’ arts and movements. We were honoured to share the stage, and push our creative boundaries and abilities with them.

Hope Mission Fundraiser 2017
Nothing makes us feel happier than community coming together for a charitable cause. As Winter’s grip was starting to tighten on Edmonton, volunteers, special guest performers and donors came together at the EJCA for an evening of mixed arts performances, taiko collaboration, silent auction and specialty hot dogs! Thanks to everyone’s support, we earned $1,800 to donate to the Hope Mission, as well as 4 XXL bags of warm Winter coats.

Red Cross Fundraiser 2016
This year Alberta was suffering from forest fires in the northern part of the province, and the Japanese city of Kumamoto was hit by a 7.3 earthquake around the same time. Our Albertan and Japanese Canadian communities came together to fundraise for the Red Cross, which assisted both of these relief funds. With the support of EJCA, volunteers, performers and donors, we raised just under $3,200.

Santa’s Anonymous 2014
For the holidays this year we decided to donate our efforts to Santa’s Anonymous, packing up the toy donations. It is very rewarding to know we are helping local kids, and we get in touch with our inner child as well as we go through the toys.
